Have you ever seen the glorious views of the Lake District? Or glanced over Lake Windermere, when it shines with silver? Well I had an excellent time venturing around Cumbria, a small county flooded by miles and miles of vast hills.
YMCA lakeside instructors are some of the nicest people you will ever meet, trust me when you go you will really not want to come home, anytime soon. The calming sights are not hard to find, as all you have to do is take a small stroll through the forest or something as special as climbing one of the many hills. My favourite activity by far had to be the aerial runway. With stress, fear and anxiety I slowly clambered up the surprisingly steady- 10 meter-ladder. Pretending I was only a few steps off the ground, I carried on with my nerve -wracking trek which was soon to be completed (hopefully) I stretched my foot outwards to the platform to find, George wasn’t there waiting for me. Realizing I only had a couple more steps to go, I placed my foot back onto the ladder. I was now at the top of the ten meter tall tower, George clipped me on to the carabiner then he sat me down on the edge of the tower, I was so confident, until I looked down, my heart was pounding, my friends encouraging voices echoed in my ears. I closed my eyes, he blew the whistle whoosh I was flying everyone cheered me on, my anxiety was instantly replaced by relief I didn’t die after all as I reversed I saw all of my friends preparing for my rescue then I touched the ground it was wonderful Another one of my favourite activities was the climbing and abseiling first I did abseiling but some of us didn’t. My abseiling experience was very scary, at first I didn’t want to but my friends ended up convincing me so I ended up doing it anyway. To be honest it bad until I slipped and landed face down on the rock and rolled across it, it was very scary. Also one of my most memorable experiences at lakeside was kayaking. Since I had never kayaked or capsized before I was very hopeful. We had a very amazing instructor (tom)he was very encouraging with us and we played lots of fun games: change, catch the duck and navigation. This year’s lakeside trip I will remember forever and I’m pretty sure everyone else will as well. I enjoyed every activity but the highlight of my trip was definitely the aerial runway. And a big thanks to George, Ros and Al. I had an amazing time and I definitely to visit again.

Monday First we went to school at 6 o`clock with Max and Marley. We were talking about the adventures we could have at lakeside. Soon all of our class were on the bus, we waved to our parents and we were off. Later, we stopped to go to the toilet and had a little run around, by now we have been on the bus four 4 hours (it was so boring). Meanwhile we were at lakeside I was super excited, we unpacked our bags and went for a walk up a hill. Then we came down again and walked our way to tea it was delicious. Later we did the king swing then went to have a hot chocolate and biscuit it was nice. Soon we went to brush our teeth and went to bed, I was sleeping with Aiden, Max, Rueben, Ollie, Marley and me we were very loud. Tuesday We had our breakfast and went to do our first activity which was bush craft it was fun until we went to go to lunch then cannoing it was lovely now in every activity we did I was doing Kiackn climbing, campfire, archery, obstacle course, zipwire, and finally raft building, there were amazing activites . soon we were on the bus on Friday and gone home ill never forget this trip. By kylan As the coach started I knew this would be where the fun started even though we had a six hour journey ahead, eventually the land scape started to change, we were there, and everyone loudly cheered “We’re there!” That was where it all started. We saw our 3 instructors, Allister, Ross and George.
Then we all excitedly stormed off the coach finding our instruction to be greeted, my instructor was Allister. (He’s my favourite) The teachers told us we had 15 minutes to put our bags away and sort out all of our stuff. To everyone’s surprise we didn’t have to put our tents up, although my tent had mattresses in our tent, my tent was tent 3, the people in it were me, Oscar, Jayden, Toby, and Gabriel. The next thing we knew teachers were telling us that it’s time to do our first activity, it was the local fell it was about a 2 mile walk up the fell although some people didn’t like it, when we reached the top the views was probably worth the walk. The king swing The kingswing was my favourite one, because at first when you started to be lifted by the rest of your team, the most nervous bit is when you are thinking about having to pull the leaver to release yourself, WOOSH I suddenly swung along with the rope, even though sometimes when you’re afraid you just have to do it anyway because. In the end it turns out to be really fun well at least some times. Pink sunsets fade slowly, mirroring perfectly over Lake Windermere’s utter beauty. Miles upon miles of high rolling hills isolate Lake Windermere from any other lake in the world. My spectacular week at the Lake District was one to remember upon many other times of my life. One of my favourite activities of our stunning weekend was the king swing. Anxiously I got strapped in to a bulky harness then got pulled to the top were I yanked on a smooth black leaver to then swing forwards and backwards. Enough outstanding activity was raft building, first we designed the raft then we began to tie the big wooden beams together to make the structure. Next we lifted our structure over to the water were we put the big blue barrels under the raft to make it float. Are raft successfully worked and we stayed dry until we jumped in! After a good night’s sleep in our worm sleeping bags and cosy green tents we were ready to do abseiling. First we got kitted up in harnesses and helmets then George had to give us a briefing. Before long I was ready for my go, surprisingly I had no fear and shot right up to the top. When I got down every body congratulated me then George, our instructor called me up for abseiling. In a while it was my turn so I Buckled up and began to walk of the cliff, carefully I shuffled slowly down the shear edge, staring at the rocky wall of the grey limestone, before long I had reached the bottom. This year’s Lakeside trip was memorable for many reasons: wonderful weather, great instructors, brilliant facility’s and fantastic foods .All run by are awesome instructors [Ross, All, George] whom also agreed that we were a great class. Chestnut class went on a trip to Lakeside, Cumbria for a school residential from the 18th of September until the 22nd. We arrived at school at 6:00am on Monday. We left at 6:45am. The journey was 7 hours to Lakeside. We all were all very tired, until suddenly we weren’t tired for long because we had sweets at 10:00am. It was just about an hour away and we were on hills. We saw gargantuan mountains.
When we arrived it was 2:00pm. We got off the bus and went into our tents and looked around. We saw a massive tent and mattress, we put all of our luggage on the damp floor. My favourite memories of Lakeside, were the runway and kayaking. In kayaking I liked getting wet. On the runway I liked it how when you get pushed you go down then you go back up again. After we came back from our group leaders we put are mattress down on our damp floor. Also a couple of nights ago from are trip we had a slug in are tent. The food was amazing, English breakfast every morning we were allowed a cup of tea with our breakfast. When we left Lakeside on the way back we had ……..? We had MacDonald’s, but we only got a happy meal was some juice. When we all arrived at school it was like 8:30pm on Friday night. At the start when we got to Lakeside we did a fell walk we walked all the way up a steep hill for an hour. Have you ever wanted sights better than any before? Lakeside’s the place for you. After the coach ride, you’re greeted with luxury tents! The tents have deep mats for sleeping. And a wooden floor, so if that’s not enough, there’s a layer to keep the unwanted rain out! The king swing. It was amazing I was being strapped in already, then there it was. CLICK. I was already being lifted. And the click came back to me. I pulled back the lever back and WOOSH. I was flying through the air, begging for another try. I loved them all, however this was the best. The Aerial Runway I marched slowly across the stone path, to the runway. I pushed the cart to anyone who was going down, like a fireman, or a thunderbird. Once I was on, I thought, “It won’t break on me, right?” I fell on accident, then opened my eyes and shouted with joy, just like the king swing, I begged for one more try. I truly loved it. Bush Craft I tiny bit calmer than all the other activities. After building a den with 3 other people, called: Charlie, Oscar and Toby. (The first two may have knocked it down.) And it was Great. After we lit fires, 4th try I got it. I’m proud. Going Home. Once it was time to go home, I looked at the coach starting up, I lifted up the heaviest bag onto the coach I sat down and got some sleep, or tried. It was all amazing, except the bus rides, though. They’re really dull and tedious. Arriving Home The most memorable thing for me though, was on the king swing was the one moment of excitement when your legs are just dangling in the air. Then you fly down through the air when your friend are cheering you on, I’ll never forget it. It was awesome. Have you ever seen the glorious views of the Lake District? Or glanced over the Lake Windermere when it shines with silver? Well I had spectacular time all around miles and miles of high hills of Cumbria. The blazing sun hits the river and makes a magical glow. But the Lakeside instructors were extraordinary, helping us get ready for the next day ahead. They made us enjoy each and every activity, it was like a dream come true.
Although I enjoyed all of the activities, there was one that blew my mind away- it was called the King swing. As the strapped me into my harness, my heart pounded quickly with nerves running through my body. Scared, I reached on to the steady ladder then I cautiously leapt of the ladder with lots of others pulling me up as high as I could go. But then nerves started to kick in so I stayed strong and in a flash I pulled the cole-black leaver and I went flying! After that, I was more confident so I pulled out a few tricks going up side down, it was a glorious view with me swinging forward and back, side to side. It was like I was gliding in the clouds! Even though the King swing was magnificent the Runway was fantastic too. Suddenly it was my turn trembling, I went up the ladder I was wobbly about starting but I knew I could do it. As I stepped onto the platform, I realized Al (our instructor) wasn’t there! I still had to go up the gargantuan ladder, I took a deep breath and I saw Al before I knew it, Al had clipped my carabiner onto my harness. It was fine until I looked down at the bottom, my heart was pumping quickly I looked in front of me it went all the way across the Lake to the other side. I thought I couldn’t do it but in a flash… WHOOSH! I was flying! It might have been slow but it was extraordinary, because I was in the air, it felt like I was flying like a little fairy! However the launch was terrifying. Amazingly it was the best zip wire I had been on in my life! Seriously, the instructors are some of the nicest people you will ever meet. There was a lot of activities I enjoyed but there was another one called bush craft! It was not what I was expecting at all. Surprisingly, we got to make our own dens for a human or an animal. It had to have a shelter, food and water. Our group was very creative. First we thought of making a den for are self’s, but then we were more caring and made one for wildlife. Every single small stick we saw we took (every stick). Finally we finished our den, it could be used for other small animals like rats, mice, bugs, insects and others. They had their own little hide out and some escape holes. The activities were fantastically creative. I had a wonderful week in Lakeside, it was the best week I had ever had in my whole life. The Lakeside trip was memorable for a lot of great reasons: amazing food, great teamwork, wonderful weather and the best instructors- Ros, Alaster, George- it was supreme. I was surprised how good we all were I thought we all would have been a little bit of a pickle. Day 1 Early morning when the sun rises over the lake, surrounded by forest and mountains (hills) the most spectacular place to see it all. The tents a darkish green with a double layered storm shelter, also with a hard wooden floor about two inches off the ground. AREIL RUNWAY The Ariel runway is a really tall tower with a wire coming down from it. I was in a group of 8 and I was the bouncer who let people through, but when everybody else went to the other end the dreading words were spoken by Allister YOU GO FIRST, my heart fell to my stomach I was horrified ,I went in and clipped myself up, looking up at it ,it was so………. high. I put my foot on the ladder and hoped for the best. I got to the top and looked down, I felt like I was going to fall down. Then Allister strapped me in and sat me down, my legs dangled over the edge, I heard the whistle and everyone cheered he counted down 3…2…1…GO. As he said go I was zooming over Lake Windermere, I waved to my friends. After it was over I was hanging so the rest of my group helped me down. KING SWING The king swing was two trees next to each other with a bungee rope harness that you are strapped into. You are pulled up by your team members on the other side of the rope. Once you are at the highest point Allister tells you to pull the black leaver. Once I pulled the black leaver I swung really high and fast. CANOE COOK-OUT We got into groups of 13 and we had 2 canoes we raced to an island in the middle of Lake Windermere, it took about an hour to get there. Then we got in twos to explore the island. After we finished exploring we played some games with the leader George, we played splat and buzz. Once we had finished playing the games me and my tent girls went to help cook and serve dinner. The food was mac and cheese (I don’t like mac and cheese but I dealt with it because I was so hungry) and then when we finished our dinner we collected all of the bowls and spoons. Once that was done we set off back to south camp. BUSHCRAFT In bush craft you practice lighting fire and you build dens. We made a small den with no roof but we did not need to sleep in it so it was fine. The fire started small but got much bigger as time went on we had 20-25 minutes to build our dens. LAKESIDE ALLTOGETHER Lake side was fun but I had a few ups and downs. My highlight was the Ariel runway because it was high and really fast and fun. My experience was cool and I would go again (for a shorter time) and I will never forget going there, it was BRILLIANT. By Fleur Have you ever wanted to go camping and feel the real experience? Well lakeside is the place for you. They have lots of fun activities to do on your stay. The instructors are very friendly to your kids and yourself. They also will do lots of fun hikes with you. Well that’s what happened to me on the day I arrived and my legs where aching like mad but I enjoyed it lots. The most amazing activities was the: king swing ,the climbing and abseiling and the runway because you have to work together. On the king swing you have to help by pulling a rope to make them hover. For the climbing and abseiling you have to make sure that the rope is tight for them to climb up. The tents are smaller than they look on the outside but on the inside they are very big because I can fit my whole class inside. You will also do some other fun activities like: bush craft and campfires at night sometimes if your lucky. For climbing and abseiling you will have an instructor with you at all times to make sure that you don’t get hurt and to set it up for you and to tell you all of the rules to keep you safe from falling from up high and killing yourself. 2 days later I’m in a team canoe heading of to a little pebble beach with half of my class in my canoe and the other half in another canoe and my canoe got there first. Once we had got there me and my class explored the little Island to see what we could find and we found some rocks that look like thrones and we sat down and relaxed after a lot of hard work to get there. Just then one of our instructors (Allister ,Ross and gorge) called us to go for a walk to listen to the wonderful sound of nature to see what we could hear. We also tried skimming stones to see who could get the furthest. When I arrived at school, I hooked my bike up, then I looked around me but I couldn’t see any of my friends. So I walked to the play- ground and my friends still weren’t there. And so I thought ok I must be early. Then I looked on my watch and it said the time was 8:50. So I rushed into my class, but the door was locked. So then I looked in the class window but there was nothing; nothing but some tables and chairs. Then I felt abandoned inside. And just then a teacher called me into the year 4 and 5 cloakroom. Cherry class When I was in Cherry class, Mrs Harrison gave me a job straight away doing a bucket job - the bucket job is filling up a black bucket with water in a water dispenser for the little kids to play with to put in a water table with toys in it. And when I was done I was drenched! After that she called me in and asked me to write out some stickers, saying (for example) Alfie p – the p means packed because cherry class had their first lunch in the hall. Assembly When I went to assembly, Mrs Kelly asked me to do the music. And so I thought, but I don’t know how to do it. Then Mrs Kelly showed me and that’s how I know how to do it. |
