It's the final countdown! Even though I got up especially early this morning, it's been go, go, go! Having got every single item from the drying room to the dining room, I rounded up each tent to return borrowed sleeping bags and check dry clothes, despite this we still have a dozen left over items which will be in Chestnut Classroom on Monday.
Each group had a mostly dry session in the morning: Group A had a mostly dry bush craft session hopefully they had finished their shelter before the rain; Group B completed the obstacle course and archery ( they were the lucky ones and under cover when the rain made an appearance) and group C just about finished their climbs and abseiling before the rain began. As soon as plates were cleared, we loaded the coach and are on our way. All of our group instructors - George, Ros and Al - came to see us off, they had been impressed with Chestnut Class all week, in fact all three said they had had their best week this season. I can believe that, the children were fantastic all week, showing all the qualities that we hope to see - resilience, perseverance, compassion and independence.

Rain, rain go away... We have been so lucky this year with the weather, the rain this morning was light and cleared completely by the time we started our activities. There was even sunshine in the afternoon. Group A finally went kayaking, they've had an amazing time. Everyone in Chestnut class became confident kayaker so in just one session. The instructors had the perfect games to build confidence. Group B all went on the aerial runway, in fact once again everyone in the class had a go. Group C were amazing on the obstacle course making mature decisions and working extremely well as a group. At last, bushcraft! This is one of my favourite activities at Lakeside and today was really special: there was no rain, no tarps, the woods are beautiful and everyone worked so well together. George took Group C a long way into the forest and challenged them to make a shelter to spend the night in. With one piece of rope to secure the structure and one to secure children, they sourced everything they needed from the woods. The talk was fantastic, each listening to others ideas and agreeing a design as a group. The final teepee style shelter was big enough to fit the whole group and even contained an indoor bathroom. I've been having difficulties updating from Miss Yate's iPad so have added a mix of photos here from different days. Team Diddy doughnuts. We wait patiently for instructions for the climbing wall, our hearts were pounding with excitement and apprehension. We soon proved ourselves to be outstanding climbers, so much so that we had a couple of goes at each climb. The nerves clicked in when we attempted the abseil. We were very enthusiastic to encourage our team mates to complete the challenge, everyone doing their best to conquer their fears.....another fantastic morning was had by all.👍😀 It may not look like it on the photos, but the weather today is fantastic. The lake is clear and calm; best of all there is no rain expected today. To make the most of the weather we will go on our group canoe cookout this afternoon. Group C and B both went on the aerial runway this morning. The children were absolutely amazing: both at the jobs they needed to do and at overcoming their fears. They made it look such so easy and fun. Group A had a warm and dry bushcraft session. The canoe cookout was fantastic. We canoed two miles in just 40 minutes to a beautiful spot. On the way back we were heading in to the wind but with nonstop paddling got back in just one hour! This left lots of time for games and had the added bonus of tiring everyone out - all settled or asleep by nine o'clock (an East Harling record) with no sound until 6:20 am. Happy faces all round today. After quite a fast journey, we arrived in high spirits. The weather has been kind, the view from our fell walk was terrific. As you can see there are plenty of opportunities to run and get tired. Hopefully, that means a quiet night. Quite a quite night, everyone settled by 10pm, which is a respectable time for the first night. Unfortunately, it was 05:06 when the first little footsteps started. After a reminder that getting up time is 7:30am, things settled again. I've added some beautiful shots of the mist this morning. Welcome to the Chestnut Class blog for 2017/18. Apologies for lack of posts so far this year, but rest assured that during Lakeside there will be regular updates.
I have glued this half term's homework tasks into the pupils reading diaries in order to give them an opportunity to start there Lakeside diary when they return. The children have been asked to complete at least one activity a week, one from each column. If the activity is active, just sign the box to show they completed it. I have given until the 20th October to complete these tasks but since writing the sheet have discovered that's a staff INSET day therefore tasks will need to be completed by the 19th. They can be dropped into the homework tray in class at anytime. |
